Trauma-Informed Somatic Bodywork
Blending touch, movement, and emotional awareness to gently support healing and release in body and mind.
What Is Somatic Bodywork?
Trauma-informed somatic bodywork is a deeply integrative practice that draws on James’s expertise in massage, acupuncture, somatic psychotherapy and trauma care. These sessions are flexible and adaptive, combining talking therapy and somatic awareness with gentle hands-on techniques like massage and acupuncture. Whether emotional or physical, what’s held in the body can begin to soften and shift—safely, at your pace.
This approach honours your process. Some weeks may feel more verbal and reflective, others more embodied and physical. What matters is that each session meets you where you are. Over time, the work can support nervous system regulation, stress reduction, increased comfort in the body, and a renewed sense of internal safety and freedom.

Session Structure
- Initial consultation to discuss goals and boundaries
- Movement or postural analysis (if useful), always within comfort
- Hands-on work: massage and/or acupuncture at a pace you choose
- Somatic dialogue—talking as needed to process what arises
- Suggestions for grounding or reflective practices between sessions
Consistency is helpful in this work. Sessions are typically booked on a weekly or fortnightly basis, and you’re encouraged to bring your whole self—body, emotions, and curiosity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to talk about my past?
No. Somatic bodywork allows the body to speak for itself. You can share as much or as little as you wish. The work is designed to be safe, body-led, and free from pressure.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal. Some bodywork may be done fully clothed, or partially uncovered if massage is used—always with your full consent and comfort in mind.
Is this like regular counselling?
It includes some talking, but also involves the body directly. Many people find it complements or deepens traditional therapy.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Some people notice change in the first session; for others, it’s a slower process. The key is consistency and allowing space for your body to respond on its own timeline.
