Somatic Biomechanics
Understanding Somatic Biomechanics
Somatic Biomechanics is a trauma-informed, body-based therapeutic system developed by James through years of hands-on experience and client work. It recognises that the body stores trauma through habitual posture and movement patterns—compensations that once helped us cope, but now may limit us physically and emotionally. These old strategies get ‘stuck’, keeping stress and pain locked in. This approach gently unwinds those habits using movement re-education, breathwork, somatic enquiry and therapeutic discussion, helping the body release what it’s been holding—without needing to relive the original trauma.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have a trauma history to benefit from Somatic Biomechanics?
No—while this work is particularly effective for processing stored trauma, it is equally helpful for anyone with chronic stress, posture concerns, or a desire to move more freely.
What if I struggle with movement or physical activity?
The movements are gentle and adapted entirely to your current abilities. This is not a fitness class—it’s about reconnecting to how your body wants to move, without pressure.
How often should I attend sessions?
Weekly or fortnightly is ideal when starting, as it helps to build momentum and integration. Later, we can adjust spacing based on your needs and goals.
Will I be expected to talk about past trauma?
Only if and when you’re ready. Somatic Biomechanics is body-led—you never have to relive or retell distressing events to benefit from this work.
